Pedestrian Critically Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on North Peoria Street
AURORA — A pedestrian is fighting for his life this morning after a harrowing chain-reaction crash on Peoria Street, one of the city’s busiest north-south corridors.
According to the Aurora Police Department, the incident occurred late last night in the northbound lanes near the East Montview Boulevard intersection. Investigators say the pedestrian was initially struck by a vehicle traveling north on Peoria. The impact threw the victim into the active lanes of traffic, where he was immediately hit by a second northbound driver.
Both drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with investigators. The pedestrian was rushed to UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in critical condition. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
The stretch of Peoria Street between Colfax Avenue and I-225 has long been a focus for traffic safety advocates. With a mix of high-speed commuter traffic, RTD bus routes, and dense residential access points near Fitzsimons and Anschutz Medical Campus, the corridor sees heavy pedestrian activity—especially after dark.
APD’s Traffic Unit has closed northbound Peoria at Montview for several hours overnight for accident reconstruction. Commuters should expect lingering delays this morning and consider Chambers Road or Potomac Street as alternates.
This marks the third serious pedestrian-involved crash on North Peoria this year, renewing calls for improved crosswalk lighting and traffic calming measures near the Montview/Colfax nodes.
