Headline: Aurora Public Safety Forum Tackles Auto Theft, Mental Health & Neighborhood Patrols This Thursday
Aurora, CO — If you’ve watched a catalytic converter get swiped off a neighbor’s Honda on Ring footage or waited too long for a non-emergency response, city leaders want you in the room this Thursday.
The City of Aurora is hosting a Community Public Safety Forum at the Aurora Municipal Center (15151 E. Alameda Pkwy) starting at 6 p.m., and the agenda is built directly on the complaints flooding Nextdoor and Ward meetings lately: rising auto theft, property crime trends in Wards IV, V, and VI, and the evolution of the Aurora Police Department’s (APD) co-responder model for mental health calls.
“We’re past the 'listen and nod' phase,” said Councilmember Danielle Jurinsky (Ward VI) ahead of the session. “Residents in Heather Gardens, Tallyn’s Reach, and downtown Aurora are asking for specific deployment data—where are the beat officers? How is the new Real Time Crime Center actually changing clearance rates? That’s what we’re here to answer.”
What’s on the docket: * Auto Theft Task Force Update: APD commanders will break down the "Lock It or Lose It" campaign results and the new bait-car rotations targeting hotspots near Town Center at Aurora and the Fitzsimons corridor. * Staffing & Response Times: An honest look at current officer counts versus the 2025 hiring pipeline goals. * Crisis Response Teams: Expansion updates for the Aurora Mobile Response Team (AMRT)—clinicians riding alongside officers to de-escalate behavioral health calls without defaulting to arrest or ER visits.
Can’t make it in person? The city is streaming live on AuroraTV (Channel 8) and the city’s YouTube page, with a dedicated portal for submitting questions digitally until noon Friday.
