Friday Night Lights Weather the Storm: Aurora Prep Sports Roundup, Sept. 25
Mother Nature didn't make it easy on Aurora athletes Friday night, but the show went on across the Fox Valley. A passing cold front brought steady rain and a 20-degree temperature drop right around kickoff, turning grass fields into mud pits and forcing a handful of schedule shifts—but it didn't dampen the competition.
Football headlines started at West Aurora, where the Blackhawks leaned on their ground game to grind out a conference win on a slick home turf. Across town, East Aurora's offense found rhythm in the second half despite the conditions. Over at Aurora Christian, the Eagles' aerial attack was grounded by wind gusts, shifting the game plan to a punishing run-heavy approach that paid off in the fourth quarter.
Boys soccer saw multiple matches pushed to Saturday morning at Stuart Sports Complex, but Waubonsie Valley and Metea Valley got their Fox Valley Conference showdown in under the lights—a chippy, physical draw that keeps the conference race tight.
Softball regionals opened with rain-delayed first pitches; Rosary's senior battery worked out of early jams to advance. And in cross country, the Kane County Invite at Elburn Forest Preserve became a true mudder—West's top runner clocked a season-best on the softened course.
Bottom line: Aurora kids competed. Coaches adjusted. Fans huddled under ponchos and still cheered. That's Friday night football—and everything else—in the 60505.
Check back Saturday for final stats, photo galleries, and updated playoff brackets.
