Aurora Prep Roundup: Softball Slugfests, Flag Football History & Tennis Title Hopes Highlight Wild Wednesday
AURORA — If you blinked, you missed the chaos. Wednesday’s prep slate across the city delivered extra-inning softball thrillers, a historic night for girls flag football, and a boys tennis showdown with Centennial League hardware on the line.
At Aurora Sports Park, the Grandview Wolves outlasted Cherokee Trail 4-3 in nine innings on a walk-off squeeze bunt by senior catcher Mia Alvarez—her first career RBI. "We preach 'next pitch' mentality," Wolves coach Dana Midthun said. "Tonight, the girls lived it."
Three miles east at Legacy Stadium, Rangeview made program history. The Raiders’ girls flag football team—just in its second varsity season—knocked off Eaglecrest 26-19 behind two pick-sixes from junior QB/safety Jayla Henderson. "These girls aren't just playing," Raiders AD Tony Lindsay said. "They're building something."
On the clay at City Park Tennis Complex, Regis Jesuit senior Arjun Patel clinched the No. 1 singles title in straight sets, locking the Raiders into a share of the Centennial League crown with Smoky Hill. The rematch looms Saturday at Gates Tennis Center.
Gymnastics: Overland edged Vista PEAK 184.2–183.9 at the Aurora Community Rec Center, sparked by sophomore floor specialist Keira Nguyen’s 9.65.
