Regis Jesuit's Will Farber Grinds Out Top-10 Finish at 5A State Golf Championship
AURORA — When the wind picked up at Columbine Country Club on Tuesday, most of the Class 5A field wilted. Regis Jesuit senior Will Farber didn't.
Farber carded a 1-under 71 in the final round — one of only four sub-par scores on the day — to climb the leaderboard and secure a share of eighth place at the CHSAA 5A Boys Golf State Championship. His two-day total of 147 (+3) capped a steady tournament for the Raiders' standout, who opened with a 76 on Monday at the Ken Caryl layout.
"Will just refuses to make big numbers," said Regis Jesuit head coach Dave Bertolucci. "When Columbine gets firm and fast like that, patience wins. He played the course, not the competition."
The Columbine test is no stranger to Aurora golfers. The private club's tree-lined fairways and slick greens have hosted state championships for decades, and Farber's familiarity — he's played junior events there since middle school — showed on the back nine Tuesday. A birdie at the par-5 14th stemmed momentum after a bogey at 12, and a clutch par save at 17 kept his round clean.
Farber's finish leads a strong showing for Aurora programs. Cherokee Trail's Tyler Kwon tied for 12th at 149, while Grandview's duo of Jake Miller and Connor Davis both cracked the top 25.
For Farber, the top-10 medal is a fitting bookend to a four-year varsity career. He'll tee it up next at Colorado School of Mines this fall — just down C-470 from where he earned his first state hardware.
