Aurora Prep Football: Eaglecrest Stays Perfect, Smoky Hill Keeps the Wagon Wheel in Week 5
It was a statement Friday night for Aurora football. While the metro area finished a combined 5-6 in Week 5, the headlines belonged to the Raptors and the Buffaloes.
Eaglecrest (5-0) is officially the team to beat in the Centennial League. The Raptors handled business against Mullen, showcasing a defense that’s starting to look downright scary and an offense that answers every challenge. If you’re looking for a deep playoff run, start at the Raptor’s Nest.
Across town, the Wagon Wheel stays in Smoky Hill’s trophy case. The Buffaloes gutted out a gritty win over crosstown rival Overland at Stutler Bowl. In a rivalry defined by momentum swings, Smoky Hill’s senior leadership made the plays when it mattered most, keeping the hardware—and the bragging rights—for another year.
Regis Jesuit gave the Homecoming crowd plenty to cheer about, rolling to a decisive victory to even their record. Meanwhile, Aurora Central and Gateway authored the weekend’s best comeback stories. The Trojans rallied late to stun Hinkley in an all-Aurora thriller, while the Olys erased a deficit to take down Rangeview. That’s the kind of resilience that builds playoff momentum.
Rangeview, Hinkley, Overland, Vista PEAK, and Grandview fell short Friday, but with league play heating up, the standings are far from settled.
