Aurora Gridiron Roundup: Four Local Programs Cash Week 6 Wins
It was a statement Friday night for Aurora prep football. Cherokee Trail, Gateway, Grandview, and Regis Jesuit all left the field with victories in Week 6, keeping playoff hopes alive and bragging rights intact across the city.
Over at Cherokee Trail, the Cougars continued their surge in Centennial League play. After a slow start to the season, the offense has found its rhythm behind a balanced attack that’s wearing down defenses deep into the third quarter. A win here keeps them firmly in the hunt for a top-three seed.
Gateway delivered the kind of gritty, defensive-minded performance that defines Oly football. Playing at the Stadium, the squad forced three turnovers and capitalized on short fields. Senior leadership on the line of scrimmage set the tone early—exactly what coach Matt Flavin has been preaching since August two-a-days at the practice fields off Hampden.
Grandview handled business against a conference foe, with the Wolves’ up-tempo spread creating mismatch nightmares all night. The receiving corps—anchored by a couple of Division I prospects—stretched the field vertically, opening lanes for a ground game that chewed clock in the second half. Playoff positioning in the ultra-competitive 5A bracket just got a little clearer.
Meanwhile, Regis Jesuit took care of business on the road, showcasing the discipline that’s become a Raider trademark. The private-school powerhouse continues to navigate a brutal non-conference slate that’ll pay dividends come November.
With the regular season hitting its midpoint, all four programs control their destiny. Next week brings critical league matchups—circle your calendars for Cherokee Trail vs. Eaglecrest and Grandview vs. Mullen. Aurora football is alive and well.
