Teen Drug and Gun Bust Near Aurora Raises Community Awareness

On Tuesday night, Aurora police received a tip that a vehicle traveling on CO‑470 near the Boulder‑Aurora line was carrying illegal contraband. When officers stopped the car, they discovered a stash of drugs, open containers of alcohol, and several firearms. The two occupants—both 17‑year‑old residents of Aurora—were taken into custody and face charges that could include possession of a controlled substance, underage drinking and illegal firearm possession.

The haul included small amounts of marijuana, a pill bottle believed to contain prescription medication without a prescription, and a half‑filled bottle of vodka. In addition, officers found a loaded handgun, a rifle and a shotgun, none of which were registered to the teens. Detectives say the items were likely intended for personal use and possibly for distribution among peers.

Aurora officials are using the case to remind families and schools about the city’s ongoing “Safe Streets, Safe Kids” initiative, which offers free drug‑prevention workshops and resources for safe firearm storage. Sheriff’s deputies stress that early intervention can keep teens from escalating to more serious offenses.
