Remembering Robert Charles Newkirk (1956 – 2026)

Aurora families and friends are mourning the loss of longtime resident Robert Charles Newkirk, who passed away this year at the age of 70. A beloved member of the Aurora, CO community, Robert spent more than five decades calling our city home—from the historic Saddlehorn neighborhood to the vibrant streets near Cherry Creek.

Born in 1956, Robert graduated from Aurora High School and later served as a dedicated firefighter with the Aurora Fire Department, where colleagues recall his calm demeanor and unwavering commitment during emergencies. After retiring, he volunteered at the Aurora Public Library, sharing his love of history with younger generations, and was a regular participant in the annual Aurora Arts Festival.

Robert is survived by his wife, Linda, his children Mark and Sophie, and a close circle of friends who will miss his warm smile and storytelling at the local coffee shop on East 5th Avenue. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Aurora Community Center.
