Remembering Paul Joseph Brabenec (1953‑2026): A Beloved Aurora Resident

The Aurora community says goodbye to Paul Joseph Brabenec, a lifelong neighbor, devoted family man, and active participant in our city’s growth. Paul, who was born in 1953, passed away this year, leaving behind a legacy that many Aurora residents will cherish for years to come.

A native of Aurora, Paul grew up on the east side of the city and watched the neighborhood transform from a quiet suburb into the vibrant, diverse community it is today. After graduating from Aurora High School, he served in the U.S. Army, where he earned commendations for his dedication and leadership. Upon returning home, Paul settled into a career with the Denver Metro Water Department, where his expertise helped modernize the city’s water infrastructure—a contribution still felt in today’s reliable water service.

Beyond his professional achievements, Paul was known for his warm smile and community spirit. He coached youth baseball at Aurora South Park, volunteered at the Aurora Community Center, and was a regular at the annual Aurora Arts Festival, often seen enjoying local music and food. Friends remember him for his storytelling, his love of classic rock, and his willingness to lend a hand whenever a neighbor needed help.

Paul is survived by his wife, Maria; son, Daniel; and two grandchildren, Lily and Mateo. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Saturday, 10 a.m., followed by a reception at the Aurora Family Fun Center.

For those wishing to honor Paul’s memory, the family has requested donations to the Aurora Youth Sports Foundation, an organization Paul supported throughout his life.
