Hasena Williams Calls on Aurora City to Waive Late Fines for Ruby’s Good Shoes
Aurora’s vibrant downtown is home to countless family‑run shops, and Ruby’s Good Shoes is one of its most beloved fixtures. After a series of unexpected delays—partly due to supply‑chain hiccups and a recent flood that knocked out power in the East Aurora district—the boutique fell behind on a handful of municipal penalties. Now, community advocate Hasena Williams is urging the Aurora City Council to grant a one‑time forgiveness of those late fines and fees.
Williams, a longtime resident of the Montbello neighborhood and volunteer with the Aurora Small Business Coalition, says the relief would “give Ruby’s Good Shoes the breathing room it needs to keep serving our community with quality footwear and personalized service.” She points out that the shop employs five locals, sources many of its leather goods from Colorado manufacturers, and regularly sponsors the annual Aurora Kids’ Walk‑athon.
City officials have previously offered temporary payment plans for businesses hit by the pandemic, but a full waiver would be a historic gesture of support for Aurora’s independent retailers. “When we protect our small businesses, we protect jobs, local character, and the downtown economy,” Williams adds.
If the council approves the request, Ruby’s Good Shoes could redirect the saved funds into inventory restocking and community events—benefiting not just the shop’s owners, but also the shoppers who rely on its friendly service. Residents are encouraged to voice their support at the next Aurora City Council meeting on November 12.
