Aurora Police Arrest Suspect After Drunken Backyard Shooting and Officer Assault

Aurora police announced the arrest of a 32‑year‑old man from the Montbello area following a chaotic incident that unfolded last night on a residential street near East 48th Avenue. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots coming from the backyard of a single‑family home. When deputies arrived, they found the suspect visibly intoxicated and the scene littered with spent shell casings.

According to the Aurora Police Department, the suspect fired several rounds into his own yard while under the influence of alcohol. As officers attempted to secure the area, the man allegedly lunged at a police officer and kicked him in the thigh. The officer suffered only a minor bruise, but the assault prompted immediate action.

Detectives quickly placed the suspect under arrest on charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, reckless discharge of a firearm, and public intoxication. He is now being held at the Aurora Detention Center pending a court hearing.

Police urged residents to report any suspicious activity, especially when firearms and alcohol are involved. “Our priority is keeping Aurora neighborhoods safe,” said Police Chief Michael Brown. The department reminded the community that tips can be submitted anonymously through the Aurora Police website or by calling 311.
